Sewing things

Hello all!  I'm now interrupting my photo like to talk about sewing!  Yay!
First off, I'm not a black Friday shopper.  I actually don't enjoy shopping nearly half as much as you all probably do.  However, when Cyber Monday came around (I didn’t know there was a such thing till this past Monday) I saw some good deals.  For example, Jenny Chancey of Sense and Sensibility Patterns was having a 25% off sale.  That is the biggest sale they have ever had that I can remember.  So...I picked up two patterns. :-)  The Regency Underthings Pattern

and the Girls 1780s Portrait Dress Pattern.  I hope to make my little sister a dress for Christmas and I have the fabric for a regency gown, but I want to make period correct undergarments first.   I heard today that they shipped, so I’m super excited. :-)
And then I popped over to McCalls, quite by chance and saw that their $15.95 patterns were on $1.99...(That means butterick, and vogue too)so I got a couple.  :-)  I bought some to make costumes for my brothers/myself, a skirt pattern for me and a dress pattern for my little sister. :-)
Butterick 3072 - For my brothers.  I don't know when we'll need them, but hey, they sure are cool!
McCalls 4698- I've always wanted a cape...They work with all eras except our own. :-)

Butterick 5061-I was captivated by the nightgown in this one.  I don't know why exactly.

Vogue 8729- Ah yes.  Vintage. :-)  I'm in love with this full skirt and huge bow.  I'm not a fan of low backs, but the high neck on this one almost makes up for it.

Butterick 3134-This pattern wouldn't probably have grabbed my attention, but one of my favorite bloggers, Olivia, over at Eager Hands can't say enough good things about it.  So I've got to try it out. :-)

Butterick 4967-This was just to cute.  I think the chiffon in the example won me over...:-)

Butterick 5371- And what is a dashing brother without his accessories?  Worst case, or perhaps best case they won't want them and I can dress up as maid marian, or snow white from Once Upon A Time, or turn that belt into and awesome Prince Caspianesque Narnian belt?  What think ye?

More sewing posts to come...After I finish all my school work!  :-)  So..Next Wednesday?  Hehe.  Just kidding.  I'll post before then.  Pinky promise...it just won't be sewing probably.

Sixteen going on Seventeen

I'm so excited!  So... I am sixteen going on seventeen.  And I LOVE the Sound of Music.  Last year I didn't have a sweet 16 birthday party, we just you know, hung out.  We were pretty worn out with the Grad party and all. Anyway, this happens to be my golden birthday so.....I'm throwing a ball!  Yup!   I've been brainstorming about themes (renaissance, historic, regency, hoedown, formal etc.) and of course what I'm going to make to wear.  I've decided that I don't need to decide yet, but I DEFINITELY need to make Liesl's dress.  I was going to draft it, but here is a pattern!  I was SO excited when I found it.  Click on the pattern to go see where you can buy it.  What really cool is that it is made by a young girl who is concerned about modesty!

Ok, so design stuff.
In the movie it looks lavender at the table, and light blue/cream/aqua in the garden.  In the publicity photos though it is VERY obviously pink.

So what color should I do mine?

I'm very undecided and I like them all.

Black and white and read all over.

Nope, not a newspaper.

Something abundantly more useful and informative.

A pattern.

Yes, I'm nuts.

New Patterns!

Every couple months Joann Fabrics has a sale on their patterns.  This past week Simplicity patterns were on sale for 99 cents, so, as I was getting fabric and notions for a special project, I picked some up.

Sewing Inspiration

I have been so inspired by some fellow bloggers in the area of sewing lately. Who knew there were such talented people out there?! I've always followed a patterns, for the most part, but these women/young ladies think outside the box. They have really good tips, tutorials, and and ideas on their blogs.
There has also been a lot about drafting patterns recently.
Draft: a. A preliminary outline of a plan, document, or picture.
b. A representation of something to be constructed.
( *sarcasm*Would you believe it was the only the 12th definition!) :-)

Please enjoy!
Of course, if you've been visiting my blog even for the slightest bit of time, you know that I mostly sew clothing. I do make handbags/purses/totes and have *cough* made a quilt(which was turned into a bag). However, I find clothing the more exciting and rewarding.
Another source of inspiration, of course, is the patterns themselves. Recently Joann Fabrics had a sale where simplicity patterns were 5 for $5, the limit was 10. I got 10. :-)
I got costumes, for the most part
but I also got two nightgown patterns, because we have a couple yards of the softest light green baby fleece you can imagine sitting in the cupboard downstairs... My first attempt at drafting will most likely be making my little sister a gown to match, and I sincerely hope it turns out, because she is SO excited.
Speaking of Emily, I also got some costume patterns for younger girls, so when she gets big enough she will not lack dresses!

And back to the world of bussines I go!
