Fit for a Queen

I love dressing up on Sunday.  It is the one day you can do it without getting weird looks from either your family or strangers, so I take complete advantage.

You may remember this dress?  Yeah, it's more comfortable than sweatpants and yet more elegant a ball gown.  I love it.  Oh, and it's the only dress I own that is floor length on my 5' 10" frame.  Level up!  Here is it paired with
Crochet vest cardigan from Ann Taylor Loft (favorite!)- $4 at a garage sale
and a black belt. -hand-me-down

Queen Annes Lace with a purple split tone to make it jive with the dress.

Did I mention this dress is elegant?  I love the flow it has when I walk.  I feel spoiled when I wear it.  Why haven't I made another?!

CoolBook 2011

Warning: This isn't a post for your brothers.  I don't want to stumble anyone.

Guess what I got in the mail yesterday?  The Illinois Coolbook 2011.  Being all of 16, I'm going to the prom, right?  Well, no.  But they think so apparently.  Being the designing/sewing/fashion type I was a little excited, as anybody would be.  "Oh cool!  Maybe some inspiration, or at least I can see what is in this season."  Well, I was inspired and I now know what is in, but I can't say I was impressed.  In fact, I was rather appalled.  I know everybody is going green and cutting back, but really, putting holes in dresses?  Surely we are not that desperate! :-)  If you are interested in seeing what was in the book, it is all online.

The coolbook.  If this is cool, we ought to be so uncool.  Anyway, something I noticed, even though they were still strapless, the models all looked so much better in white!  The white dress pictures were taken outside with the sun in the background and flowers and if the dresses were more modest I would go so far as to say it was well made, very pretty, and very feminine.  However...

The pictures taken inside used (mostly) seductive poses, really bright colors, guady jewelry (all probably a throwback to who knows when), weird holes, and legs...

Hip high slits were ubiquitous and the models were obvious trying to show as much of their legs as possible.  Sequins and beads covered almost every bodice, drawing very inappropriate attention.  Seriously though, their whole carriage, there attitude would say the exact same thing even if she was wearing a turtleneck and long flowy skirt.

Girls who go to prom are 16, 17, or 18.  I'm 16.  Many of my readers are probably 14 to 19.  We are all in the same group guys.  This is what our generation thinks is cool.  Hopefully this isn't our view.  But what do we do?
Think about it......

........What can we do?

There is so much sewing and design talent out there in the blogosphere.  You may not know who you are, but I've seen you.  You guys are great.  There has got to be something we can do!

How can we make a difference for Christ?  We all want to be different, but we should not be different for different's sake.  We need to be different for JESUS.  Get in your Bible and study.  Find out why you dress modestly and know how to defend it.  Be ready to give and answer as Timothy says.

We can make a difference gals.

I'm working on something in my head and I'll post about it soon, but until then, just think about it.
And pray.

Winter Olympics Pairs Skating Choice

Jessica Dube and Bryce Davison

This Canadian team didn't place in this Olympics, but I thought that they put on a great show.  Because of their program, even with its mistakes, their comeback, and their costume fashion, they are my favorite.  We'll just have to admit that they weren't the best, and I'm glad they didn't win, the Chinese couple definitely deserved it.  However, they are still my favorite pair.  I enjoyed their program, and I admire them for getting back on the ice.  In 2007, in Colorado, Jessica's face was slashed by her partner Bryce's skate blade while doing camel spins.  As a pair, to get back out on the ice, keep competing, and make it to the Olympics is very admirable.  Now onto the costumes. :-)  When they skated out the first thing I thought was: "Wow! Her chest is covered!".  I mean really, what is it about ice skaters and practically wearing nothing?  Anyway, I love the rick-rack, it gives Jessica's outfit a sort of vintage feel.  And, since Bryce's outfit could actually be worn, like, in real life, I think it gets a pretty good score.  Apart from the usual tightness and shortness of the skirts, I think this is the most modest outfit I've seen.
I love her hair too!

The Red Dress

Yesterday I woke up with a crazy urge to wear a dress.  That is a first.  Anyway, all the ones I have made are summer dresses, so I started thinking...  "Hey Mommy, do you remember when we got those matching read dresses from Chadwicks like 6 years ago and I didn't like mine so I gave it to you?..."  Well, we found one of them.  It was very big on me and had an unacceptable neckline, so after wearing it once I decided I wouldn't be wearing it out of the house again.  Well, now it is a lot shorter than it was and the sleeves are a little short, but I roll them up anyway (nervous habit I suppose) so that didn't matter.  It was still a bit baggy...so I added the only large belt I have.  Was it a fashion faux pas?  I'm thinking back to everything I've read on Amandabeth Online and trying to decide... Anyhow, my friends liked it. :-)

On another note, that same Amanda Beth is hosting another fashion event!  Head over to her blog to check it out.

Ugg Boots!

Does anyone here not like them?  Like them?  Love them?  I've not tried them, but I think that they would be nice.  Comfortable, and fashionable without going overboard, what do you think?  I think it is worth a try.  That is why I've entered this drawing for them at Whooga Ugg.

It is very simple to enter, and if you like them too, I would suggest hoping over there and signing up!
